Mediaeval and Renaissance Stone Carvings

This collection contains fragments of sculptures, carved architectural elements of artistic value, and fragments of tombstones from the period stretching from the 11th to the 16th centuries. Besides major assemblages from the abbey church at Ják, the mediaeval cathedral at Kalocsa and the Cistercian abbey at Pilisszentkereszt, it features such emblematic pieces from the early period of Hungarian art history as a memorial stone from Aracs, a king`s head from Kalocsa, the Jacob from Pécs, and fragments of Queen Gertrude`s tomb in Pilisszentkereszt. Among the important Renaissance fragments are a part of an altar from Diósgyőr attributed to Giovanni of Dalmatia and a relief from Nyitra with a depiction of Christ taking leave of His mother.
